Though 46 per cent of English people think that holiday jobs are merely an increase of pocket money, every year numerous teenagers decide to take a holiday job. Currently there are more than 57.000 holiday jobs listed on Jobswype über 1.600. It should be noted though that there are legal differences between an holiday jobs and a work placement.

Vienna, 09/27/2017 -  Around 46 per cent of English people think that holiday jobs are good to gain professional insights. Not all assess them as equally useful as show the 8 per cent who think that holiday jobs are a complete waste of time and 46 per cent for whom they are merely useful to increase the pocket money a little bit. These numbers are the result of the most recent poll from the international job search engine Jobswype.

“Our team agrees with the people who assess holiday jobs as useful out of the same reasons as mentioned”, says Jobswype director Christian Erhart. “At the same time we know that is is not always easy to find an adequate holiday job. This is why we want to help our users even more with that”, Erhart adds.

Legal differences between Unterschiede zwischen holiday job and work placement

In order to really find a fitting holiday job, Christian Erhart is sharing some useful advice with future jobbers: “Don’t wait too long and begin to search for a holiday job at least six months in advance. Additionally, check the status of the contract, the expenditure of time related to the work, salary and which tasks you will have to do. You might get a good insight into legal regulations on the website of the Chamber of Labour.” Indeed, there are legal differences between a holiday jobs and a work placement. A holiday job is seen as as regular working relation, with a claim to salaries in line with the collective wage agreement and a holiday, whereas the apprenticeship and the volunteering are in the focus of an internship with no claims to a salary or holiday. However, companies can compensate their interns with an optional pocket money.

This poll has been conducted by Jobswype in August 2017. 792 persons took part.
